“Marit Peterson Genes” associated with risk of developing melanoma.

The Marit Peterson Fund has enabled the discovery of several unique genes to be identified. Researchers anticipate others to be announced soon:

HERC2 (controls DNA repair)
OCA2 (controls skin, hair and eye pigmentation).
These are both on human chromosome 15.

LASS2 (a tumor-suppressor gene)
ANXA9 (a gene controlling immune responses).
These are both on human chromosome 1.
